Summer Fun in Knoxville, TN

Summertime is prime time for fun in Knoxville! With great weather and so much to do and see, this city offers endless warm-weather options for the whole family. Check out these incredible Knoxville hot spots.

Ijams Nature Center

Bring the whole family, or enjoy some “me time” in nature when you visit this free conservation center, located just outside the heart of Knoxville. Hikers will love the 12+ miles of trails, ranging from easy to difficult, while water-lovers will enjoy the opportunities provided by Toll Creek and Mead’s Quarry Lake. The Ijams Nature Center has partnered with River Sports Outfitters for canoe, kayak, and standup paddleboard rentals; however, visitors are allowed and encouraged to bring their equipment. Additionally, Ijams Craig, located in the nature center, offers Knoxville’s only outdoor rock-climbing area.
Blueberries and Blackberries on Bluegrass Rd.

Nothing says summer like fresh berries! Try visiting a local u-pick berry farm like Blueberries and Blackberries on Bluegrass Rd. This locally owned and operated farm, southwest of Knoxville, sells berries and other summer produce. Bring your own beverages, hats, sunscreen, and mosquito spray, and spend the day picking fresh berries. Whether you eat them fresh or make a yummy cobbler, they always taste better when you know you gathered them yourself.

Zoo Knoxville

Enjoy a wildly good time at Zoo Knoxville! This 53-acre zoo is located just east of downtown Knoxville and is home to around 800 animals. Zoo Knoxville practices conservation both inside and outside the zoo. The institution has the distinction of successfully breeding more endangered red pandas than any other zoo in the world! Zoo Knoxville is also a top breeder of endangered tortoises.

Fort Dickerson Park

Explore urban wilderness at Fort Dickerson Park, an 85-acre park with a 4-mile nature trail located in the heart of Knoxville. Fort Dickerson is an interactive Civil War fort: one of the best-preserved earthen forts from that time. The park is also home to a pristine quarry lake, making it the perfect place to spend a summer day without leaving the city.
