Live like a local in Music City

Categories: Goodall Homes, Goodall News, Nashville Area Homebuilder | Posted: February 16, 2018

People come to Nashville for a visit and certain attractions are always on their list of things to do, like the Grand Ole Opry, the Belle Meade Plantation, Ryman Auditorium, and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Those (and many more like them) are the obvious places to see in Nashville and the surrounding area. But when this Music City becomes your home, here are some ways to live like a local!

Take in the architectural eclectica

Local architect Nicky Dryden described the city’s architecture as “place making”. He explained that the design blends a passion for “urban anthropology and cultural salvaging”. It’s all about reinvention. An old service station was converted to a hip retail boutique. You can walk around the city and see lovingly preserved remnants of the Old South, landmarks like the Union Station, and contemporary structures (AT&T Building, Fifth Third Center).

Find the best-kept secrets for fabulous food finds

Southern cooking is a perfect blend of flavor and ingenuity. Your list of “Where to Eat in Nashville” should include locally-owned eateries. Grab a quick bite from one of the hundreds of food trucks throughout the Greater Nashville area, each of them completely redefining your expectation of fast food. Martin’s BBQ Joint and Edley’s Bar-B-Que serve up some of the best barbecue in the city. Arnold’s Country Kitchen is renowned for its fried chicken and banana pudding. Feast on flaky biscuits from scratch and “meat ‘n’ three” lunch choices at the Loveless Café. Take the family to Swett’s for cafeteria-style dining with good home-cooking.

Of course, there’s legendary hot chicken, a local treat so popular it has its own association, the Nashville Hot Chicken Coalition, and the Annual Music City Hot Chicken Festival.

Cheer on the Titans

The Tennessee Titans are a big favorite in Greater Nashville. The NFL team continues to play harder, get stronger, and climb toward the top of its division. During football season, join a crowd of fans at any of the local sports bars, or head to the Nissan Stadium in Nashville to get a closer look at the action.

Take part in the festivals

One of the best ways to fit seamlessly into the Greater Nashville landscape is to join the locals in one of their many celebrations. Nashville loves its festivals, and you can take your pick among many: Americana Music Festival, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Tin Pan South Songwriter’s Festival, Ragin’ Cajun Crawfish Boil, Wild West Comedy Festival, Tennessee Renaissance Festival, Tomato Art Festival, NAIA Pow Wow, and Full Moon Pickin’ Parties, to name only a few.

Hang out at the park

Take your kids, your dog, your bike, your lunch, or just yourself to one of the scenic parks around Nashville. Centennial Park is a favorite place to get outdoors on a sunny Tennessee day. The park’s 132 acres include walking trails, a dog park, a band shell, the famous Parthenon, sand volleyball courts, a sunken garden, and the scenic Lake Watauga.

Whether you’re already a local in Music City or thinking of moving to the area, talk to us at Goodall Homes. We’re a local home builder with new home communities throughout Nashville (including Gallatin, Franklin, Nolensville, Murfreesboro, and Hendersonville). 2 more great reasons to live in Knoxville: Hayden Hill and Morganton Reserve

Categories: Goodall News, Knoxville | Posted: November 13, 2017

One visit to Knoxville and you see for yourself what’s truly special about this city. The great outdoors couldn’t get any greater, with the Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee River, and abundant lakes—and a beautiful climate that lets you get out and enjoy your favorite recreational pursuits.

CareerBliss.com placed Knoxville #2 on its 2012 list of “Happiest Cities to Work in Right Now”, and in 2013, Forbes chose our region as one of the “Top 100 Best Places for Business and Careers”. In fact, we were applauded for our resiliency as one of three cities across the country that has recovered the strongest from the recession. Livability.com ranked Knoxville as one of the “Top 10 Places to Retire”. Dog Fancy Magazine recognized our furry friendliness by choosing Knoxville as the “Most Dog-Friendly City in the Southeast”.

Our Communities

All these accolades sum up why Goodall Homes, a new home builder in Knoxville, chose to launch two new home communities here. Hayden Hill and Morganton Reserve extend our long history of building communities where people can enjoy a lifestyle, not just a home. The Knoxville location is the perfect backdrop to inspire our newest new home communities.

We chose Hardin Valley for the site of Hayden Hill, because it’s so convenient to local amenities, like the town center at Turkey Creek and top-rated Hardin Valley schools. We’re building single-family homes here that range from almost 1,939 square feet to almost 3,400! You can customize one of six Goodall Homes floor plans to create exactly the style and features you want in your new home—from our single-level Hanover to designs like The Whitman, which easily accommodates multi-generational living.

Hayden Hill will provide residents with a community pool, pavilion, and playground. What a great way to build neighborhood friendships!

In our current building phase, we’ve already sold 11 homes in Hayden Hill. We still have 14 available homesites, plus ten homes built and ready for quick move-in.

Morganton Reserve is our newest Goodall Homes neighborhood, coming to Maryville in 2018. We’ve begun sharing with interested homebuyers our single-family home floor plans (ranging from 1,868 to 3,3358 square feet), and we’ll be breaking ground shortly. We are situating this community just ten minutes from Downtown Maryville, where you’ll find all the shopping, dining, events, and services you’ll need. Golfers will also appreciate living directly behind the Royal Oaks Golf Course. In addition to a wide variety of new home designs, we plan to provide our Morganton Reserve residents with a community park and walking trails.

If you are looking for a family-friendly neighborhood and affordable, energy-efficiency home, please visit Hayden Hill’s model home as 10817 Laurel Glade Lane, Knoxville, and Morganton Reserve’s sales center at 913 Kingfisher Street in Maryville. Call us at (615) 603-3992 to schedule a private tour. We can’t wait to show you the best in Tennessee new homes!

Nashville Wins Top Ranking as Hottest Single-Family Housing Market

Categories: Goodall News, Housing Market, Nashville | Posted: July 20, 2017

Tennessee builders rejoice! We’ve known it for years, but now it’s official – Nashville is the place to live.

According to a recent Tennessean article, Nashville has the hottest single-family housing market in all of the United States. Based on local growth in population, wages, jobs, and overall state of the economy, Nashville snagged the No. 1 ranking. Compiled by online real estate marketplace Ten-X Research, competing cities on the list included Orlando, FL, Fort Worth, TX, and San Antonio, TX.

Even better, Nashville posted the highest score in economic prospects out of the nation’s 50 largest housing markets. Fast-growing sectors include education, health care, leisure, and entertainment. Local employment has been increasing at a rate of up to 4% year-over-year.

Though the cost of living is rising at an equally fast pace, Ten-X said buyers needn’t worry about this affecting their budgets. While Nashville has also jumped to the top of the list for the fastest rising cost of living number, the affordability of individual housing still remains favorable.

Ten-X’s Top Single-Family Housing Markets Summer 2017 report attributes this to the fact that downsize risks are moderate due to prices having fallen only slightly during the housing burst.

“Unless there’s something unforeseen that disrupts the economy like a major employer moves out, it’s really well-positioned for the next few years,” said Rick Sharga, a Ten-X executive vice president.

We always knew that Nashville was the best place in the U.S., but now the whole country knows it too.

Potts of Poplar Grove Middle presented Goodall Homes Student of the Month

Categories: Awards, Goodall Homes, Goodall News, Williamson County | Posted: June 7, 2017

Poplar Grove eighth grader Carter Potts received the Goodall Homes Student of the Month award last week. With him are (from left) Laura Lavery, teacher, Amy Potts, mother, Carter, Rachael Overall, Marketing Manager for Goodall Homes, and father Jason Potts.

To say eighth grader Carter Potts is a young man of many talents is an understatement. However, his teacher Laura Lavery tried to use two words to describe him: leader and maturity.

“Leadership and maturity are the first two attributes that come to mind when I think about describing Carter,” said Lavery. “These attributes have been demonstrated in my classroom with myself and his peers in both social and academic settings. He is very mature for his age and serves as a leader in my classroom. He is very cognitive of social interactions and how he carries himself.”

Among several honors he has received, Carter was given the U.S. President’s Award for Educational Excellence, Outstanding Academic Excellence, and All A’s Fifth through Eighth Grade. In addition, he participates in travel soccer, the Freedom Middle football team and basketball teams, Beta Club, Math Olympiad, Williamson County Honors Orchestra (where he plays first Choir bass), tennis team, golf team, youth programs at his church, Pride Time at his school and FCA.

When asked how he manages to do all this, the humble 14-year-old mentioned he prioritizes his life with God first, family second and school and activities third.

“I just try to stay focused on those three things and this helps me balance school and my activities.”

While Carter has many activities he is involved with, his dad, Jason Potts, seemed to be the most proud of his son participating in the Poplar Grove Middle School Orchestra. The Poplar Grove Middle School Orchestra most recently played in the TMEA State Concert Festival, which is only for programs having attained the highest level of achievement.

“This was a great honor to play at this event and to be recognized,” Jason Potts said. “I am so proud of him and this orchestra and they deserve this recognition.”

Carter’s mother, Amy Potts, talked about being a good role model for his brother and sister.

“He is a well-rounded, humble and genuine young man, and his brother and sister look up to him, and he has the best smile!”

She also described Carter as a good team player who is responsible and mature beyond his years.

“He demonstrates strong leadership skills, is always fair and supportive of others even during tough situations,” she said.

Carter is a huge math fan and emphasizes that it’s his favorite subject. He has plans to get into the medical field one day and looks forward to moving on to high school next year where he will attend Centennial.

Rachael Overall, marketing director of Goodall Homes, the sponsor of the award, is becoming a regular at Poplar Grove Middle School. Overall took time to recognize the other winners from Poplar Grove over the past two school years.

“I love this school and appreciate Ms. Lavery for her nominations,” said Overall. “This school has great kids that are successful in school and in the community, the kind of great kids Goodall likes to recognize.”
